Weather in Ljubljana
Slovenia has varied climatic conditions. While the mountainous regions experience a harsh and cold climate, the northeast parts have a Continental climate, and the coastal regions experience a pleasant sub-Mediterranean climate. The western part of the country frequently experiences rainfall and cloudy weather due to strong south-westerly winds, and the eastern part generally stays warm and sunny. In fact, when it is cold and cloudy in the inland areas, the Primorska region remains mildly warm and sunny.
The city of Ljubljana lies nestled in a basin between the Alpine and Karst regions. The climate of this city is heavily influenced by Mediterranean streams. During the summer months, the city experiences a hot and sunny climate, with average temperatures hovering around 25 °C in the months of July and August. Winters are cold, with temperatures averaging to 0 °C and below.
The winter months are harsh, with cold, grey days and very little or no sunshine for half the year.
These extreme temperature variations are typical of the entire country. Winters throughout Slovenia are extremely cold, while summers are hot and sunny. The city of Ljubljana also experiences plenty of rainfall throughout the year. However, it is also a sunny city by Slovenian standards as it enjoys relatively high levels of sunshine.
